Update...

Its been more than a week, so it just seems time to put another post out there.

All I have to say is that the world continues to be screwed up. But in all that I came to a realization. Over the last weekend in Toronto at Ontario Model Parliament it occurred to me. The Liberal Party of Canada is (or is becoming) anti-Israel. There isn't really any point here. Its just a fact of the matter. We still have a few Irwin Cotlers or Susan Kadis' or Scott Brisons or Bob Raes, but for the most part this party speaks out against the rights of Israel and by extension its Jewish constituency. This party has to wake up, and yesterday, before it loses all of us.

I challenge you on this. The overwhelming majority of liberals have been extremely willing and active in defending Israel. Repeatedly.

On what basis to you make the claim that our party is "anti-Israel"?

Dion didn't do much in response to the anti-semitism directed toward Bob Rae's campaign and his wife. He issued a press release condemning it and that's about it, not much more than that.

Dion was elected Liberal leader and as a politician that matters more than anything to him even if anti-semitism helped him win.

Boy, is this pathetic or what - trying to make an issue out of non-issue.

Nothing else to talk about these days? Making things up is blogging, it shit-disturbing.

Jordan, you may have a point.

The Israeli government, by their own hand, is making it tough to be very sympathetic to their situation.Take a look at the last fiasco in Lebannon. How many innocent people died in that.

Canadians are becoming increasingly anti-Israel for the same reason they are becoming anti-America. We are getting tired of watching these two countries 'bully' around weaker countries at the point of a gun. It's not a very Canadian thing to do!

If Israel wants Canadians to respect it, then they will have to offer up something more than a body count to do that. Maybe some in-roads towards peace with it's neighbours might gain a bit respect in these parts. Maybe even accepting some of the responsibility for the political quagmire in the region, and not laying all the blame on the Plaestinians might help as well.

Jordan if Israel wants to be a thriving country in the next century, then political solutions, not military solutions are required. The world is getting smaller and it's imperative that we develop methods to co-exist with each other.

So let me get this straight - a press release in response to a personal and bigoted attack toward a competitor is, in your mind, so inappropriate a response to render the author of that press release anti-semitic?

(a) What should he have done?
(b) 5000 of us were also at that convention, and as I recall I didn't issue a press release. Am I thereby an anti-Semite too? Are all of us?

Come on. This post doesn't even dignify any of our continued commenting on it. Patently ridiculous.

Nice to see that I've gotten so many responses. So, let's take it from the top, shall we?

You say that "the overwhelming majority of Liberals have been extremely willing and active in defending Israel. Repeatedly."

I'm going to have to challenge you on this. Find me a quote from one Liberal that I didn't mention in my original post that defended Israel's right to defend itself during the Hizbollah War. Tell me how many member spoke out against Israel. There is no recent proof to show that the Liberal Party of Canada is pro-Israel today.

To anon 7:58am:
Same to you. Harper may not know what he's talking about on health care, child care, and pretty much all social or economic policy, but he was right about this.

To anon 8:17am:
I appreciate the support.

To anon 9:19am:
Please, tell me how such racism is a "non-issue."

To anon 11:52am:
If we are going to discuss the Hizbollah War, tell me how many Liberals expressed support for Israel as a democratic state to defend its borders.

You will have to give me an example of how Israel bullies "weaker countries at the point of a gun." In all its history Israel has never attacked another state that was not already attacking it.

Perhaps to obtain peace Israel could offer Gaza, Samaria and Judea, and East Jerusalem to create in independant state? Of course, Prime Minister Barak did that in 2000 at the Second Camp David Accords. I believe Yasser Arafat responded by demanding the destruction of Israel.

On your last point I agree. As we both know, Israel has a history of diplomacy. I refer, of course, to the peace treaties signed with Egypt and Jordan. I am sure you are well aware that there has not been violence between Israel and these two nations since.

To mark 1:16pm:
You are obviously responding to the anonymous poster that supported my original point. I must agree with that poster. Many of us have seen this flyer. (You can see my previous post about it here. http://jordanglasstimes.blogspot.com/2006/12/cjc-condemns-vile-flyer-attacking-bob.html) It is antisemitic, and it undoubtedly influenced people. Antisemitism was on the floor at that convention. That cannot be denied.
