Belinda Stronach
First it was Peter Mackay. Now political pundunt and for Mulroney staffer Norman Spector has joined the mix.
Mr. Spector is on record as referring to Belinda Stronach as "bitch" for breaking up Tie Domi and his wife and continuing that he "isn't suprised there was so much coverage of the 'dog comment' becuase there are so many female reporters on Parliament Hill."
I have nothing to say except that this is absolutely reprehensible. Since the day Ms. Stronach crossed the floor she has been subject to this kind of treatment. Its time all you Conservative partisans get over yourselves and understand that sometimes these things happen. We left David Emerson behind a long time ago. Stop treating Ms. Stronach like she is the reason the Tories lack any sort of respect from the people. You manage to do that just fine on your own.

Actually, Stronach was subject to shoddy treatment before she left the Conservatives. She was booed at the Conservative membership convention.
Things like break ups and adulteries "don't just happen". She made a major life change without consulting her boyfriend, stabbed him in the back, then skanked around with a married man. It shows a lot of poor judgment on her part-- and that's being charitable.
This is great! It demonstrates the reason why Tories are Tories. They know, deep down, that they are wrong on virtually every area of public policy (social, economic, foreign), so they have to resort to meaningless personal attacks to try and dupe people into voting for them.
Let’s look at this argument for a second (which is really all it deserves). The main point here is that Belinda was disliked by some Tories before she decided to cross the floor and join the Liberal Party and Martin’s cabinet. OK, that is a fair assumption, and probably correct. However, we need to consider the evidence presented: the fact that she was booed at the Conservative "membership convention" (whatever that is?). Stop the presses! A leadership candidate being booed by the supporters of a rival leadership candidate at a major national political convention? No way!
In actuality, this is common. Partisanship, remember, occurs both between AND within political parties in this country. I can’t remember the last time the federal Tories or Liberals were totally united behind their leader. This is probably because it has never happened.
And if you honestly believe, Suzanne, that Belinda crossed the floor without telling MacKay, you are very naive. Obviously she told him. At the end of the day, she's a good person. She was with him, and why would she want to see him hurt (especially in public)? Because they had different opinions on social values and how to move the country forward? Don’t think so. She made the right choice, for her conscience, based on the values she was raised on, and on behalf of her constituents. She changed to the only political party in Canada that is both progressive and has the capability to govern.
With respect to the Domi thing... first of all, who cares? Second of all, who cares? Let's check... right, no one. Other than the editorial board of the Toronto Sun and some hardcore Leaf fans, this is a meaningless story engineered by the tabloid media to sell more papers.
Even if she "skanked around with a married man", why do you care so much? There are a lot of federal Tory members that are, how to put it, not part of the "moral majority" when it comes to their marriages. Does it really keep you up nights? I think the thousands of children that die meaninglessly every single day of the common cold is probably of greater concern for those who say that they are interested in politics.
People that get angry that Belinda crossed the floor have a valid reason. People that get upset that she broke up with Peter MacKay, or that she is now dating a hockey player, need to find something more important to worry about. I would suggest Sudoku.
Perhaps most ironic is the relationship between how upset people get over meaningless personal attacks in politics and the credence and attention that the subjects of those attacks pay to them in return. To save you the time, the relationship is inversely proportional.
